In a nutshell
A pinned post is a post you keep at the top of your profile, working like a business card. Regular posts flow downward, newest first, but a pinned post stays at the top until you swap it.
How networks differ
X's glossary explains that you can pin one of your posts to the top of your profile (X glossary). Instagram's Help says you can pin up to 3 posts or Reels to the top of your profile grid (Pin posts, as of October 2026).
What to pin
Most people who open a profile first came across the account through some post. Choose a post that helps them decide whether to follow. For a shop, that might be your signature menu item and location; for a company, a post that explains what the company does in one go; if you are hiring, a recruitment notice.
Watch out for a pinned post that goes stale. If a finished campaign or a menu item whose price has changed stays at the top, first-time visitors see wrong information. It helps to set a day to review it whenever the season or your focus changes.
A common approach is to pin an announcement only during a campaign and switch back to a signature-menu post when it ends. Pinning a post does not make it more likely to appear in recommendations. It is a place aimed squarely at people who opened your profile. Choosing which topics to build around is covered in Content pillars, and the whole flow of gaining followers is in How to gain followers.
SNS TOWN's scheduled posts cannot pin a post, so changing the pin is done in each network's app. If you draft the text and image for the post you will pin ahead of time on the composer screen, you won't be scrambling on swap day.
