Social Media for Restaurants: Post Every Day, Even Between Prep and Service

Restaurant social media has a strong material in photos of the food, but nobody has a free hand to post during service. Store photos in the Library, let AI draft the text, and decide the posting times ahead. With these three, you can keep posting even in the gaps between prep and cleanup.

What tends to go wrong with restaurant social media

Restaurant accounts stall most on busy days. Your hands are full from lunch prep to cleanup, so posting gets pushed to after closing, and you're too tired and never post. The next day is the same, and before you know it the last post was a month ago. It's a pattern seen at many restaurants.

The other problem is having lots of photos but no words to go with them. If every post ends "Today's special!", readers can't tell it from the last one. Repeating similar text also makes posts less likely to be shown together in X's For You feed. This is explained in What makes a post show up in X's recommendations.

On top of that, when things you need to say right now, like an unexpected closure or selling out, mix with things you can prepare ahead, like seasonal menus, the schedule stops fitting in one person's head.

What to post

A restaurant's posts are strongest when a photo only you can take is combined with facts only you can write. The following topics are easy to keep up at any restaurant and help readers picture visiting.

  • Prep, and the reason for that extra step (how many hours the stock simmers, why vegetables from that region)
  • The day a seasonal ingredient arrives, and a limited dish made with it
  • Introductions to the owner and staff, and the tools you care about in the kitchen
  • Busy times and when you can walk in without waiting
  • How to book, how to order takeout, where to park

Rather than "It's delicious", writing "We use sea bream picked at the market at 6 a.m. in today's lunch set" gives readers more to go on. Avoiding sentences that could apply anywhere is the shortcut to being read again and again.

How to run it in SNS TOWN

Keep photos in the Library

Add photos of dishes and prep taken during service to the Library. If you note what's in each photo, the AI has a clue for choosing a photo that fits a draft. If you keep phone photos in a Google Drive folder, connect the folder with Google Drive sync and it is copied into the Library automatically every hour.

Write your restaurant's facts in the company profile

In the company profile, write what you care about, who you want to reach, your tone, and things not to write. The more detail you give on facts such as suppliers, the story behind your signature dish and opening hours, the more your restaurant's character comes through in AI drafts. Add the menu items you want to push this month to "Key messages" and they appear in drafts.

Decide posting times ahead

If you place slots in your post cycle, such as "every day 11:00" and "Friday 17:00", drafts are prepared for each slot and line up under Awaiting approval by 15:00 two days before the publish date. If you read and approve them in one go on your closing day, they go out on time with nothing to do during service. Urgent notices such as an unexpected closure can be published right away from the post screen.

Create reasons to visit with replies and campaigns

If you call out in a post, like "We reply individually to anyone who comments 'booking'", auto replies respond only to matching replies. When you want to give people a reason to visit, you can also use campaigns where people enter by replying on X. Besides a draw, you can choose an instant win, where the entry time decides the winner. Auto replies and campaigns are features of higher plans. See Pricing for details.

Things to watch out for

Prize limits depend on the entry conditions

When you give prizes on social media, check the premium rules of Japan's Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations. The limits set out by the Consumer Affairs Agency are below (as of October 2026; Consumer Affairs Agency of Japan: overview of premium regulations).

MethodExampleLimit per prizeTotal limit
General sweepstakes (draw requiring a purchase)Transaction value under 5,000 yen20 times the transaction value2% of expected sales
General sweepstakes (draw requiring a purchase)Transaction value 5,000 yen or more100,000 yen2% of expected sales
Fixed premiums (gift for everyone)Transaction value under 1,000 yen200 yenNone set
Fixed premiums (gift for everyone)Transaction value 1,000 yen or more2/10 of the transaction valueNone set
Open sweepstakes (no purchase or visit required)Anyone can enter by following and replyingNone setNone set

Once you make a purchase a condition, as in "send a photo of your receipt to enter", the general sweepstakes limits apply. Check before you set entry conditions. The thinking is explained in more detail in Social media campaigns and Japan's premium rules.

Ask invited guests to show that their post is an ad

If you invite an influencer to eat and ask them to post, then since October 1, 2023, representations that are hard to recognize as advertising (so-called stealth marketing) count as misleading under Japan's Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations. The business that made the request is the one covered (Consumer Affairs Agency of Japan: stealth marketing regulation). When you ask, tell them to label the post with "ad" or "PR".

On allergies and ingredients, write only what you can state with certainty

When a social post mentions ingredients or allergies, write only facts you have confirmed in the kitchen. If you write "Don't make absolute claims about allergy handling" under "Things not to write" in the company profile, AI drafts will avoid that wording.

Frequently asked questions

I can't touch my phone during service. Can scheduled posts alone keep this going?

Yes. Place slots in the post cycle and approve in a batch on your day off, and posts go out on time with nothing to do during service. Drafts are ready by 15:00 two days before the publish date, so even a weekly check is in time.

Are photos taken on a phone fine?

Yes. You can put them straight into the Library. When photos are short, the AI can also draw images, but for the dish itself a real photo avoids a mismatch with what guests find when they visit.

I want to post to both Instagram and X

Connect both accounts and post from each compose screen. For X and Threads, or Facebook and Instagram, one switch on the compose screen posts to the partner at the same time.

I need to announce an unexpected closure right away

Press "Post" from the post screen and it goes out immediately. If it clashes with a scheduled post that day, open that scheduled post in the calendar and skip it.

Can I reply to reviews in SNS TOWN?
