What tends to go wrong with salon social media
The most common problem is having photos but not posting them. Photos pile up on each stylist's phone after every appointment, but nobody has time to pick one and write a caption. The amount posted varies by person, and the account loses its coherence as a salon.
Next, posts turn into "Thank you for visiting!" over and over. Even when the photos differ, if the text is the same every time, readers stop reading it by the second post. What people considering a booking want to know is missing: what to ask for to get this look, and how long it takes.
Then there is how you handle customers in photos. You need a person's consent to post a photo showing their face, and if staff can't tell whether consent was given, you will have trouble later.
What to post
Salon posts get stronger when a photo of the result comes with information that helps someone decide to book.
| Photo | What to add |
|---|---|
| Finished style | Menu name, approximate time, hair type or length it suits |
| Nail or lash design | Seasonal theme, how long it lasts, how it is removed |
| Salon and tools | Why you chose the products or tools, number of seats, private rooms |
| Stylist introduction | Specialty styles, days they work |
| Care tips | How to blow-dry at home, when to come back |
Using words to fill in what photos can't say, such as how to ask for the look, reduces hesitation before booking.
How to run it in SNS TOWN
Collect photos in the Library and add descriptions
Put the photos staff take into the Library. If you note what is in each photo and the menu name, AI has a clue for choosing a photo that fits a draft. If each stylist puts photos in a Google Drive folder, connect the folder with Google Drive sync and it is copied into the Library every hour. Deciding on a folder that holds only photos with customer consent makes it clear what is safe to post.
Set the voice with your company profile and reference accounts
In the company profile, write the feel of your salon, your tone, who you want to reach, and things not to write. If there is an X account whose style you like, add it to reference accounts and the AI uses its way of writing in your drafts. A check stops drafts that copy long stretches of the reference posts, so it will not become a copy.
Reply to booking enquiries with a set process
If a post says "We reply individually to anyone who comments 'booking'", auto replies respond only to matching replies. You can have the AI write the reply, or prepare up to 5 fixed messages such as "Bookings are taken via the link in our profile" and use them in order or at random. Starting with "Approve before replying" lets staff check each reply before it is sent. Auto replies work on X and Threads and are a feature of higher plans (Pricing).
Decide when to post
In your post cycle, put slots at times when people thinking of booking are likely to look. You can check which times got the best response from your own posts in best posting times.
Things to watch out for
Say only what you may say about retail products
When you write about the effects of shampoo or cosmetics you sell, stay within the range of effects that may be claimed for cosmetics under Japan's Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Act. Claims like "grows hair" or "removes age spots" exceed that range. If you write this under "Things not to write" in the company profile, AI drafts will avoid such wording.
Long beauty treatment courses fall under Japan's Specified Commercial Transactions Act
Esthetic contracts that run longer than one month and cost more than 50,000 yen count as "specified continuous services" under Japan's Act on Specified Commercial Transactions, and exaggerated advertising is prohibited (Consumer Affairs Agency of Japan: specified continuous services). When you announce the results or number of sessions of a course on social media, describe it exactly as it is.
Get consent for photos of models and customers
For photos that show a face or the treated area, tell the person you will use it in a post and get their consent first. If you ask an invited influencer to post for you, have them make clear that it is an ad. Since October 2023, representations that are hard to recognize as advertising count as misleading under Japan's Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations, and the business that made the request is the one covered (Consumer Affairs Agency of Japan: stealth marketing regulation).
Frequently asked questions
Each stylist has their own account
Connect both the salon account and each stylist's account. The number you can connect depends on your plan. Switch in the header and only that account's posts are shown.
Can I post to Instagram without an image?
An Instagram post needs an image or video. The compose screen changes to match Instagram's rules when you choose it, so a post without an image is flagged right away.
Does it connect to a booking site?
It does not connect to booking sites. You use post text and auto replies to explain how to book.
Is there a feature to blur faces in photos?
No. Put only photos with consent in the Library, or blur them before adding them.
