An instant win is a giveaway where the time between entering and hearing the result is short, so people see the outcome on the spot. On social media, a common format is that people reply to or repost a designated post, and winners are notified by a reply or a DM.

How it differs from a draw after the deadline

Which suits you depends on your goal. Because it gets people talking many times during the period, it is often used to announce a new product or to give people a reason to visit. If you want an announcement to spread widely, choose an instant win. If you want to put the fairness of everyone having the same chance front and center, a draw after the deadline is easier to explain.

Rules to follow

Prizes may count as a "sweepstakes" under Japan's Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations, and there are set limits. According to Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency, for an ordinary sweepstakes the prize is capped at 20 times the transaction value if that is under 5,000 yen, or 100,000 yen if it is 5,000 yen or more, and the total is capped at 2% of expected sales (Overview of premium regulations, as of October 2026). The networks have their own rules too. X's guidelines for contests ask you not to make people create multiple accounts or post the same content repeatedly, among other things (Guidelines for running contests on X).
